I couldn’t believe it this morning when I read the latest news on Steam, Half Life celebrated its 10th birthday yesterday!

Half Life
was the game that got me into online gaming and I can hardly believe it has been so long.  This was the debut title for a company running by the name Valve, and boy how far have they come since then?

If you have never played the original Half Life then I encourage you to get a copy on Steam now and play it. 10 years have done nothing to diminish the appeal and playability of this game, to help you decide, you can get a copy on Steam up to Friday 21st November for only $0.98!  You would be silly to miss out this opportunity to play a bit of history and see where it all started.

Half Life got reve reviews when it first came out and the genre busting title has spawned many imitators and inspired a generation of MOD developers giving birth to some wawesome spin-offs like Blue Shift where you play the whole game from the perspective of one of the security guards, Barney.  Also opposing force where you play as the soldiers fighting their way through the Black Mesa complex.

You can’t miss this opportunity to play a piece of history, I’m even going to open it up and have a go myself later this week to remind me of those good old days 10 years ago.  Not sure if my system can handle it though:

System Requirements

Minimum: 500 mhz processor, 96mb ram, 16mb video card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: 800 mhz processor, 128mb ram, 32mb+ video card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

How far have we come in 10 years!

Steam was just a twinkle in a developers brain back then, today Valve are building a very successful empire and I hope I will look back in another 10 years with a similar fondness.  By then of course we’ll be playing games via Steam on our mobiles and beating up hologram zombies in our living rooms thinking how quaint it was when we used those deskbound computer thingies and had to use monitors to see the graphics  ;0)

Happy Birthday Half Life, congrats to Valve – keep up the great work guy’s.
