There finally seems to be a number of superb apps coming to the G1 via the marketplace and not before time as there are lots of apps on the marketplace that really only re-package existing functionality or just plain don’t work.

Timothy DeWees has created a useful little application that allows you to easily l;og your collections of CD’s DVD’s, Books and games.  The idea is simple but pretty well implemented, it makes good use of the phones camera too by utilising an extra barcode scanner app.  With this you simply scan the barcode on the item you wish to log and then the data is looked up from the amazon database.  This saves you typing in a load of info but also gets yo an image of the item you have just logged.

Once you have logged all your items you can track which of your contacts you have loaned an item to so you can easily keep track of where yer stuff is at :0)  This is managed by another tab which lists the item and who’s got it.

I’m forever lending stuff out and forgetting who’s got what so this is extremely useful for me :0)

There are a couple of things needed to just polish the app a bit, but it works well, and I got a really fast response from Timothy when I mailed him with my findings and suggestions.  He’s positively developing and has some good stuff in the pipeline.

I think it’s important for developers to listen to the community and utilise the feedback to improve their applications, in my mind this is what open Source and the Android platform are all about.

So if you want to track your collections of CD’s or Books on your phone so you have the list available wherever you go, then download ‘My Collection’ from the Android Market Place and if you have some polite and constructive suggestions pass them on to the developer, even if it’s just to show your appreciation.

[UPDATE] – Checked the Marketplace this morning and this app has already been updated with some of the planned improvements – That’s a good service to the community. Nice work Timothy :0)
