More Monkey business…

Posted in Fun on September 29th, 2007 by admin

Looking on Youtube I notice there’s a whole truckload of ‘remix’ versions of the cadbury gorilla advert. here’s my pick of the best.

The Best advert ever made?

Posted in Fun on September 29th, 2007 by admin

As a drummer and a massive fan of coming in the air tonight by Phil Colins, it has to be said that I may be a little biased. But I saw this advert during a break in the rugby world cup this afternoon, an I am totally impressed.

Aptana IDE goes dual license

Posted in Aptana on September 24th, 2007 by admin

Aptana is one of the most popular web development IDE’s available in the open source arena today, and definitely my tool of choice. Up until now Aptana has been released under the Eclipse license. Recently they changed the licensing to a new Aptana Public License and this week they added GPLv3 to the mix to enable a more OSI compliant licensing structure.

This is a welcome move by the Aptana development team and should ensure that Aptana continues to grow from strength to strength.

ajaxwindows goes live

Posted in Interesting and Entertaining on September 11th, 2007 by admin

An interesting concept has just gone live on t’internet.  a web based version of windows… this is an interesting concept it’s like a mobile OS that you can log into from anywhere.  I played with it a bit this morning and though I found the performance a little slugish, everything pretty much worked.  you get a text editor and links to your webmail.  you can even synch files via your Gmail account.  I thin the concept is interesting and it certainly shows off the skills of the developer but I just can’t see this taking off.

Ajaxian Previews EXT 2.0

Posted in Ajax, Web Development on September 7th, 2007 by admin

Ajaxian have a blog entry this morning which previews some of the cool new features due in EXT 2.0.  They have included a nice video too showing some of the stuff in action.

I like EXT and it’s fast become my library of choice for web development whenever I can use it.  EXT 2.0 looks to be a really nice update to what started out as yui-ext.

Silverlight goes wild…

Posted in Linux, Web Development on September 6th, 2007 by admin

Microsoft have announced the release of Silverlight 1.0 today.  There’s also an announcement regarding Silverlight for Linux.  Known as Moonlight, this is a port of Silverlight to the Linux platform via a partnership with Novel and from the same stable as the Mono development project that brings .Net development to the Linux platform.

Head over to Scott Guthrie’s blog for more details.

Opera 9.5 goes Alpha

Posted in Interesting and Entertaining on September 6th, 2007 by admin

Looks like the Opera developers have been busy tweaking Opera and adding in some interesting new features.  CyberNet have an exclusive video showing some of the new features off and they do look interesting.

Codename Kestrel the Alpha is available here.  It is an early preview so expect instabilities, for safety you’d be best running it on a test system or in a VirtualPC / VMWare session.
